Mathematics
Algebra
1 credit Math per two semesters
This class covers polynomials, factoring, algebraic fractions, fractions, square roots and quadratic equations. Time permitting, the class also explores inequalities and sequences. Geometry
1 credit Math per two semesters
This class explores the way shapes relate to each other. Students are expected to master concepts of how the lengths and angles of shapes are related. There is nightly homework, including extra challenges for those who wish to undertake them, and several tests per semester. We work with straight edge and compass constructions. Students need to keep a notebook of course terms and definitions.
Fall Semester topics covered: General definitions, linear pairs, vertical angles, triangle congruence, parallel lines, triangle and other polygon angles. Many of these topics include mathematical proof. Spring Semester topics covered: Polygons, area, volume, similarity, trigonometry, circle geometry, symbolic logic and loci. Algebra II
1 credit Math per two semesters
This course builds on the foundation laid in Algebra I. The overall emphasis is using algebraic concepts to solve practical problems. Topics include linear, exponential, logarithmic, quadratic, rational, and radical expressions, functions and equations. Pre-Calculus
1 credit Math per two semesters
PreCalculus is a combination of Trigonometry and Algebra III. The class uses Paul Foerster’s Precalculus with Trigonometry text as a source for problem sets.
We spend the Fall Semester studying trigonometry, and the Spring Semester studying functions (linear, power, exponential, trigonometric and logarithmic) and their transformations. AP Calculus
1 credit Math per two semesters
This course follows a college level Calculus I curriculum. The course emphasizes understanding calculus numerically, graphically, analytically and verbally. The fall semester uses a full double block every day and introduces the concepts of calculus one by one. The spring semester uses a single block and we spend our time working with more complicated problems that require application of multiple concepts to solve a single problem. Upon completion of the second semester, students should be prepared to succeed on the AP Calculus exam.
Other Math course options available by arrangement include:
- Statistics and AP Statistics
- Practical Math
- Private tutoring (additional cost)
